Valentine’s Day Plus One

Share More

Valentine's Gift from LexYesterday is what many people know as Valentine’s Day (VD). Honestly, I don’t know a lot about it until I read it today in Wiki. All I know was VD should be the day when ones celebrate their love with a special person in their life. Spending a special time together in a special way. For some people it’s also a chance to give a gift of love, where flowers and chocolate is usually the most common alternative.

Well, now I know that the name Valentine itself doesn’t have any romantic history. Beside the fact that people still celebrate it on Feb 14th, the celebration of VD nowadays hasn’t got any relevance to its origin. Some other countries has adapted VD celebration to their own version, not sure if this is a result of a social assimilation or just an end product of commercialization. Yet, some countries/people still see VD as a christian day. This has caused the celebration of this day is prohibited in some countries/area.

Tonight, I’m not going to debate about should or should you not celebrate VD. Beside, VD is already a few hours behind (here). I’d just like to remind myself, that from today I only have 320 days left of this year (2011). That’s considering The End of Days isn’t coming anytime soon πŸ˜› Anyway, I don’t have any choice with what I should have done in the past, but I’ll always have a choice with I should do in these next 320 days.

It never really matters if today is VD, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Children’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Best Friends’ Day or just an ordinary day. What matter is as long as I have love, for God, family, parents, siblings, relatives, friends or anyone, then I have enough reason to celebrate today πŸ™‚

Well, happy any day to all of you! πŸ˜‰
Love, Sahat Tambunan

The Curious Case of Blog Sahat Tambunan

I can’t remember when I started blogging and I also can’t remember why. Taking a glance at my archives link in this blog, I notice that I started blogging here since March 2007. However I didn’t start my first blog here, I started blogging on friendster. So friendster is the one that introduce me to blogging. Again I take a glance at my archives link, but this time in my previous blog in friendster. Well, well, what do u know, now I remember that my first post is in 2005 and here is the content:

Hari ini, Jumat, 9 September 2005, 18.17, Pertama…

Hahaha, a very simple first post (^^) Anyway, now I know that at 9 September 2011, I would have been blogging for 6 years. Ah wait, I almost forgot. I have my blog connected to my facebook on October 2008. So everything I posted on my blog since then was also automatically posted on my facebook notice a few hours later. For all these, I personally like to thanks Friendster, WordPress and Facebook for giving me the chance to share by easy blogging.

My blogging life is not actually such a cool thing. I’m not a famous blogger that can have hundreds of comments in every post. I’m also not actively posting through these years. I’m not a great writer who can always provide entertaining posts. But hey wait a minute! Now I remember why I started it. It’s because I like sharing. Sharing thoughts, knowledges, experiences, ideas, new information and sometimes just sharing what I feel. I never hope to get famous (though I wouldn’t have rejected it have I had the chance πŸ˜› hehe).

3 Simple Steps to Detect Hoax

Share More

Many of us still easily believe in any article or story we read/watch/listen. We don’t even try to find out first whether it’s worth believing. These behavior would make us a very delicious prey for hoaxes. Just in case you’re not sure what hoax is, Wiki describe it as “a deliberately fabricated falsehood made to masquerade as truth” or if I may say in my own terms, Hoax is a lie spreaded intentionally as a fact to deceive others.

With current technology, hoaxes could be easily spreaded in many formats: Email, Blog, Websites, Instant Messenger, Text Messages (SMS), Facebook Status, anything. The only limitation for hoax growth is the creativity of the creator. So bad response gone worse, we might not stop in just believing it but even help spreading them to family and friends.

Many hoaxes don’t feel harmful, some might feel very helpful, and some might even make us think that it’s better to pass this information regardless the accountable of the information. However, the end result could end up worst than we could possibly imagine. We might inadvertently affect ones habit, fears, mindset or even believes. This is made possible because most hoax will provoke our emotions and made us feel something. They made us feel sad, angry, happy, dissapointed, afraid or even touch the sensitive parts of our life like religion or the people we loved. They must have learned that many people lost their common sense once they let their emotion take over.
