Reset ML-1640 and ML-2240 for Refill Toner
As I’ve shared on my previous post about how I tried to look for soft-solution for resetting a Samsung ML-2240 so it can use refill toner, in this post I will give the download link and the howto. Instead of giving you the whole package, I provide them in 2 packages for each printer model, the raw package and the simple package.
The Raw Package contains the original firmware upgrader from Samsung with the patcher and firmware downloader. With this package you’ll need to run the complete steps I did.
The Simple package contains only the patched version of firmware so you only need to do the final step I did.
Feel free to use whichever package you prefer. But before we begin, please read carefully these facts:
- The patcher are NOT made by me, all credit goes to the original creator which I unfortunately don’t know
- The firmware upgrader included in the raw package are official version downloaded from Samsung website
- The firmware file included in the simple package are the patched version
- I provide the links and the manual but please use it at your own risk
- I’ve run the patched for a Samsung ML-2240 and it worked, but I never test the fix for ML-1640, however I also supply the file because it’s provided by the same patcher
- My operating system is Windows XP SP2

You will find 5 files in this package:
- ML-1640_V1.01.00.83.exe is the official firmware upgrader
- downl1640.bat is the firmware downloader (to printer)
- fix1640.bat is the firmware patcher
- fixml40.exe is the tools run by the patcher
- usbprns2.exe is the tools run by the downloader

Please follow these steps if you use the Raw Package:
- Extract the package, by default it will go to a new folder with the same name as the package
- Run the official firmware upgrader (ML-XX40 _V1.01.00.83.exe)
- Choose which connection is used for the printer (USB/Network), afaik this printer model is only available with USB connection
- See the temporary folder used for the firmware on 2nd panel “Select Downloaded Firmware” in File Name field. Open the specified folder and copy the specified filename (with fls extension) to the package folder
- Now close the firmware upgrader
- Run the firmware patcher (fixXX40.bat) and you will find new firmware file in the same folder with prefix “FIX_”, press any key to exit the patcher
- Make sure your printer is turned on and is properly connected to your computer.
- Run the firmware downloader (downlXX40.bat), DO NOT turn off or disconnect the printer/computer during this process
That should be it, now press any key to exit the downloader, turn off your printer for about 10 seconds and turn it back on.Updated BASED ON ooppoo comment on February 9th, 2010 at 2:43 am, DO NOT TURN OFF OR DISCONNECT THE PRINTER/COMPUTER AFTER YOU EXIT THE DOWNLOADER, wait minimum 10 seconds after closing the window before you turn off your printer. You will find 3 files in this package:

You only need to run the firmware downloader (downlXX40.bat), DO NOT turn off or disconnect the printer/computer during this process.

Hi smith, I can’t really give a straight answer right now, but we have actually refilled the toner twice by now and I’ve only done this reset once. I didn’t even know about the 2nd refill since the printer user doesn’t inform me about it.
The printer still print perfectly with no more annoying exhausted toner alert. Just to be sure, I’ve asked them to inform me first before doing the next refill. Sorry, but I have to wait for their next call for better answer

hi i reset a ML-2240 printer with simple package, and i send to print 200 page then verify the selftest and said “Toner page Count” 6 pages maybe this help you

Hi Marco, many thanx for the info. That’s really smart. But I’m currently very busy in the office, I don’t have the chance to check the counter as you did. Perhaps, I will later. But just fyi, we have changed the toner for more than 3 times without doing anymore reset, so I think, yes, you only need to do it once

I also use the simple crack for the 1640. And it works fine. It was done for about 5 sekonds.

well i used the simple method on 1640 with starter toner which firstly had capacity of 700 pages but after patching has capacity of 1500 pages. total page count stayed the same -170 pages but the toner status is 100%! thanx kocu. very simple, very useful

After doing this on my ml1640 when i want to turn it on after downloading and pressing key and turning of the printer it won’t start anymore. When I switch to on, red light and amber light will go on for a second and afterwards off. so the printer is not detected by the computer and i can’t do anything anymore….
Anyone else experienced this?

I’m not 100% sure why, but things like this happens mostly because printer is disconnected during process or is turned off too early that firmware download was interupted during process.
Honestly, right now I don’t have any info/knowledge of solving this problem, but I’ll look around and inform back here if I can find something.

if you failed to flash go to samsung and flash with the official firmware ( samsung download center ) to fix you printer again

Run Setup.exe and click start button.
The red led will be orange and when it finish it will be green. Then you turn off and on you printer and it would be OK.
This is a patched firmware too, but it’s from a webshop site, so maybe it could work.
p.s.: You should be patient with upgrading, so wait and don’t turn off your printer before time:)

@well: So as a realized now your problem is caused by the new stock firmware of your printer.
The older patched firmwares don’t work with new printers.
But now there is a new version (93).
You can download it from:

Or wait for new patched firmware, but don’t forget you need a patched version of ML1640_V1010093.fls or ML2240_V1010093.fls according to your printer.

Thank you very much brother, it is working successfully on my ML-1640. I am now using the initial catridge now, after patching the initial catridge capacity changes to 1.5K, and the toner remaining status is always in 100% now, the the good thing is the toner page count always remains to zero.
My question is as my printer now recognizes the initial catridge as a full catridge of 1.5K capacity, can I now refill my initial catridge, if yes how? Is the size of the toner compartment small in the initial catridge than that of a full replaced catridge? Please reply. Thankyou

1. Trun off your printer.
2. Start your computer.
3. Push the orange button, and keep pushing.
4. Then turn on your printer (with the button on the back of the printer). BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING THE ORANGE BUTTON!
5. Then the LEDs start blinking (5-15 sec later), you can release the orange button.
6. You can repeat the firmware installing procedure.
BUT IF YOU DO THE UPDATE AGAIN THE WRONG WAY THEN IT WON’T WORK! PLEASE READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY!
If you can’t reupgrade the firmware repeate the 6 steps procedure until it won’t work!

I have sorted the pins, i get always 0 page count
even after i removed the cable reports 0 count. Now i cannot print at all , red light is on no matter what. I.ve tried http://www.startcopy.ru/repair/files/sams48xx.htm and to downgrade with version 66 . I also flashed with the official 93 version from samsung and still cant get this printer to work

First of all, why can’t you upgrade the firmware? What happen, and which method do you use?
What is the version of the firmware which you use now? Turn on your printer and press the orange button until it start blinking. Then you release the button, it will print a page which contains the firmware version.
But I think, the latest patched version should work if you do everything good!:)
So do the next steps:
1. Download this:

2. And download this one too:
http://www.startcopy.ru/repair/files/fw_93_84.rar
3. Then unzip ml1640.zip to a folder, than unrar ML1640_V1010093.fls from fw_93_84.rar to the same folder.
4. run fix1640_93.bat. It will make a FIX_ML1640_V1010093.fls file, and give some advice:)!
5. run downl1640_93.bat
6. Please be patiant!
If something goes wrong, please repeat the method which I write down 5 post above!
Any other advice:
You have to remove the chip from the cartridge if it has one before you start downloading the firmware.

Ooppoo, many thanks!! I performed your trick with my ML-1640 v1.29.00.93. Now “toner remaining” is from 100% back to 0%. The total page count remains the same. Cartridge capacity from 0.7K to 1.5K and dot/opc count back to zero (don’t know what that is). I have the starter cartridge in the printer. Is is now just buying some toner and fill this cartridge up? Or?

I use the initial(no chip) original , but refilled bundle toner, and every turn_on event set to zero the toner page counter.Great!

Hello everybody! I bought a ML-1640 a couple of hours ago after reading here that it is possible to hack it. Thanks guys! OS version: 1.29.00.78 (09.30.2008). Does anyone know wether shorting the pins will work with this firmware or not? It’s new and I don’t want to ruin it on day 0

You don’t need shorting the pins and any kind of hardware hacking. Just install the patched firmware and it is always resetting toner stats every turn on of the printer. Please read this thread and every post in this forum. The best if you use the .93 version…

Hi guys. I see you wrote some useful stuff in here.
I do have a problem tho, I have ML – 1640 printer (brand new), with 1.01.00.91 firmware (havent seen .91 firmware till now)
Anybody knows how to downgrade it to .83 or lower? preferablly to .66.
Version .93 is the last version Samsung put out, its also a version you cannot downgrade as far as I know. Is it the same with .91?
I’ve tried to flash it with my .66 firmware
and tried the simple pack with .83 version. none work.
any ideas?

@palin: Why do you want to downgrade, hm?
You just use the patched .93 version which I linked above, and please follow my instructions. With this patched .93 version firmware you can refill your toner. More over you can use bigger toners. i.e.: 1610 (3000 pages).
We downgraded the firmware, because newer versions don’t let you short pins. So we needed to downgrade to older versions which let you short the pins. Then Samsung made a newer firmwares which don’t let you short pins and unfortunately we couldn’t downgrade because new firmwares deny downgrade. So now we can upgrade. And clever hackers make a patched firmware from the .93 version. And it’s the newest one, so everybody can upgrade to it. It is patched which means it isn’t the stock firmware because, it always reset toners counter without you needed to short the pins.
So please use the version 93 patch from the russian site.

The point is i’ve fucked the printer of one of my customers – he wanted to use recycled cartridges and i put .93 samsung firmware on it and nothing helped after that.

I have 1 observation though: It’s not very clear from your instructions that you have to turn on your printer from the button from the back while pressing the orange button until the LED starts blinking. First I turned it on then pressed the orange button, got the test page started flashing but the orange LED kept blinking and nothing happened. THANK YOU anyway great job!
P.S: Why are manufacturers allowed to do this kind of things in the first place? It is not very eco-friendly to throw away cartridges that can be recycled couple of times.

The orange button:
If your printer turned on and you push the orange button until LED start blinking –> you print a test page.
If your printer turned off and you push the orange button and while keep pushing it and turn on your printer with the button on the back of the printer, than you release the orange button when the LED start blinking –> hard reset, the printer ask the firmware. You should use it when you fail with uploading the firmware, or your printer doesn’t work.
I never use 1610 toner with ML-1640, but as I know you can use it, you just have to remove or use cellotape to stick the chip on the toner.

Thank you for your answer. As far as I know 1610 toner doesn’t have any chip. I’ll try to do a research on it. Anyway I have the time because the printer is new only 13 pages total. Great work anyway and thanks again.

most of them have recycling programs, its just that people mostly dont care bout it.

I have an ML-1640.
I tried OOppoo’s first (Jan 6, 2010; 9:31 p.m. post) because it’s newer. Step 3 said running fix1640_93.bat “will make a FIX_ML1640_V1010093.fls file”. It created two files instead = fixml40.exe and ML2240_V1010093.fls. The content of fix1640_93.bat does say “fixml40.exe ML1640_V1010093.fls; pause 0 .”Then, on the CMD window, it said “Error reading input file!”
There were two fix1640_93.bat files though, one in the main folder and other in “ignordev” subfolder (I unzipped with “use folder names” checked). I used the one in the main folder. Should I have used the one in the ignodev subfolder?
I then tried the Simple Package in Kocu’s blog. It worked for me. Here’s my test page (before –> after):

i had same problem..i reset pin 1&4 to think the counter will reset,, unfortunately…red light came out…then it prints a message

thanx 2 all of you. today i fixed my office’s 1640 with the initial cartridge. but i had already bought a replacement cartridge, regarding which i have some confusion that, will i be able to use that replacement cartridge, after i have done this f/w upgrading thing, just putting it in the printer normally if necessity rises to use this one. though my initial one is working after the reset.
please suggest, if anyone have any experience regarding this type circumstance.

Try using scotch tape or insulating tape to stick the chip on the toner. As result it will be the same as the initial toner.

Hello.
I just bought new toner (the one with chip) and I have firmware for my ML 1640 updated to .93. (Before that I had .60 version so I could have printed more pages with the initial toner, but I updated it now with the firmware from Russian site with hope it will solve my problem.) I’ve tried insulating the chip but I still get the message “Invalid Black Toner Cartridge” and “Supplier: Invalid Toner”. What should I do – can anyone please help me?

- Install cracked firmware .93f
- I have a new toner with a chip so I had to stick some tape over the chip.

I am glad that it worked for all you. Unfortunatelly after some FW upgrade I have the printer led always blinking (red/green/red/green/…).
What can I do to make my printer come to live again?
First I made the Simple version and after that I can’t print a seft test page. Then I decided to try the RAW version and the blinking led problem happened

I tried this:
i have an initial toner that reads 1.5k max (because of the simple patch above) and i tried using ML1610 toner. basically it won’t work. but the design is just identical. What I did is, i removed the cover of both toners (initial ml1640 and ML1610 toners) and inter-change them. I plugged in the ML1610 with ML1640 cover and presto, it worked!
i don’t know if it will work on every ML1640 toner coz i only 1 have piece of it. but you could try and post the result here. goodluck.

Hi There!
Just to let you know that I did exactly as ooppoo said in his commnet highlithed in red and worked perfectly.
Firmware update took about 5 secons, and 5 seconds later the printer seemed to reset itself (red light turned to blinking red for a while and made some paper tray sound, just like when you turn it on). Then back to green light and was ready to go.
FYI. My original firmware was 1.01.00.91 and patched version shows 1.01.0093f
“Intitial tonner page count” resets to zero every time I power off the printer and “cartridge capacity” has been upgraded fromm 0,7K to 1.5K.
Needless to say Sahat and Ooppoo are the greatests !!!!!!!!!!

I’ve tried with a ml-2240 but by mistake i used fix2240_93 altought the original firmware was 1.01.00.84 … the download was fine but the printer says the toner is empty… Reading the russian page says that i must use fix2240_83 but a i can´t go back… i’ve tried to install the original firmware but the printer stays with the 93f again… any idea?

I did it!!…. Because i have an original toner only, i put a tape on the chip but the other thing i was missing was the fuse… i put a fuse then aplied de 93f and it erased the counters… its working fine thanks to all… hope this helps.

HELP!!!!
When you get to step 4 (from the red highlighted instructions) it says the following:
4. run fix1640_93.bat. It will make a FIX_ML1640_V1010093.fls file, and give some advice:)!
I did this and a black DOS looking window pops up on my screen with the following instructions:
1. Remove chip from cartridge.
2. Download file “FIX_ML2240_V10100093.fls to printer by usbprns2.exe or usblist2.exe.
3. If “?Device Emplty” jumper closed all counters except “total Page Count” will reset after each powere on. If “DEVE” jumper open all counters behavior equal to original firmware. Cartridge capacity increased from 700 to 1500 pages.
OK….. so… I have the initial cartridge that came with my new printer. I don’t have a chip in the cartridge. Is this going to work? Also, when I downloaded file “FIX_ML2240_V10100093.fls” …what does it mean by dowloading it by usbprns2.exe or usblist2.exe??? I clicked to download it and I didn’t know what do do next b/c my computer didn’t have anything to download it with and windows did a search and couldn’t find anything.

for ML2240 I use simple pakage it finished in a moment BUT now windows can not recognize catch my printer e.g. it’s no responding to plug play, the Toner led is ON my os is XP SP3

Hi,
I used Simple Package for ML-2240 to overcome Toner Exhausted problem, It finished in a moment. I turned OFF printer and then ON. now only Toner led (RED) is ON, power led blinks in a few second interval. I tried Trund ON power while OK button is pressed and Pressing OK button for a while result the Power button to Blinks Yellow-Green-Yellow it does not stop till Power OFF.
BIG problem is this printer is not being recognized by XP, new harware wizard failed to detect the printer! any suggestion will be highly appreciated..Thanks

If you need a newer firmware version please look at a comment posted by ooppoo which I’ve marked in red.
If your printer go bad and somehow become unusable, please look at a comment posted by ooppoo which I’ve marked in bright red.

Hi!
One thing which could cause problems to anybody:
When you start download bat, it’s open a cmd window. Then it puts some dot to the window, then it says downloading finished. And you have to press a button, then the window’ll close! BUT THE FIRMWARE UPLOADING START AFTER YOU CLOSE THIS WINDOW!!! SO YOU SHOULD WAIT!!! I AM SORRY BUT THE “FINISHED” MESSAGE IS WRONG AND THE DOTS DON’T SHOW THE REAL PROGRESS OF THE FIRMWARE UPLOADING.

thanks atas info2 di website ini, kemarin saya sempat update firmware ml 2240 dengan ML1640_V1010066.fls dari 1640, mengakibatkan printer saya nyala warna merah, dan tidak bisa digunakan untuk print meskipun di status printer windows adalah ready. untuk print informasi printer langsung dari printer nya saja tidak bisa. lalu saya coba jalankan program firmware downloader (downlXX40.bat). akhirnya printer normal lagi..
os berubah dari 1.01.00.77 07-30-2008 menjadi
1.01.0083f 04-08-2009
initial toner pagecount nya menjadi 0 lagi..

I had the same problem with the Samsung ML 1640 printer. First I tried to follow the steps written by ooppoo with red color, but it didn’t work for my printer. Then I just used the Simple Package for ML 1640, and my problem was immediately resolved! Now my printer is working propperly again (with the original cartridge).

bang sahat, saya baru beli samsung ml-2240 dua hari yang lalu dan baru coba print beberapa lembar. haruskah saya mengupgrade firmware nya sebelum habis toner asli apa harus menunggu sampai ada notofikasi isi toner habis?? btw, kalo mo lihat versi firmware dari mana yah? trims infonya…ditunggu yah ngak pake lama.

alow mas dayan, sebaiknya tidak perlu diutak atik dulu printer barunya, nikmati saja dulu
kalau nanti habis dan mau refill lebih baik tanyakan apakah supplier toner refill nya bisa membantu, karena biasanya mereka berani memberikan garansi. Kalau memang tidak ada baru saya sarankan jalankan update firmwarenya 
untuk lihat versi firmware caranya tekan tombol printer sampai berkedip lalu lepaskan

Tick: Hi Tick, you don’t have to download it again, just download between the simple or raw package and run the steps, or you can also try the download link suggested by ooppoo which I’ve marked in red

I have used ooppoo’s method (comment from January 6th). It has worked perfectly on my ML-1640 with OS version 1.29.00.93 11-23-2009. I am now printing with a refilled toner cartridge.

I have one small question
Initial toner page count reset to zero but total page count is still showing 303.
Is there any problem with Total page count?

No the total page count won’t be zero. But it’s not a problem.
“Toner Page Count” and “Initial Toner Page Count” should be zero on every turn on. And “Dot/OPC count” also should be zero.

Hi! I have a problem with my ML 2240; i was doing reset by sortcutting processor, but something went bad so now printer does not start. Lights turn on in this secuency: red, orange red and then goes off the two of them. I made procedure using te orange button, and printer first led lights goes to red/green/red/green…very fast and tonner led stays in red. I really don`’t know what appened, I hope you can HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

i updated the Frimware ; Using your Instruction ! and it works perfectly , and it was done in just 5 seconds …. :O
now every time i restart the counter turns to zero
is it possible to find out how much INK is still remaining in the toner ? without opening it ?
can any one please give me an average how much a Starter cartridge can print on a fully refilled toner ?
one more thing i wanted to ask , i am going to refill my toner ; how much Refill ink should i put in ?
should i put the ink full 100% up too the Ink CAP??

@Guiseppe: There is no linux version of the firmware uploader software. So you should get a windows. I don’t dare to try the program with wine!
@Tom: I don’t know. But you can try it!
Nothing wrong can happen. You just upload the firmware without the FIX.

My printer ML1640, it stop working after updating
it has no power(led lites one time and off)
And I’ve tried the all the step that oopooo said above :
1. Trun off your printer.
2. Start your computer.
3. Push the orange button, and keep pushing.
4. Then turn on your printer (with the button on the back of the printer). BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING THE ORANGE BUTTON!
5. Then the LEDs start blinking (5-15 sec later), you can release the orange button.
6. You can repeat the firmware installing procedure.
But, when I try until the step 4 above, there’s nothing happen with the printer, it doesn’t blink at all (I’ve already hold the orange until 1 minutes). And until now, the printer still off.
Does anyone could help me?

I used the simple package for my ML-2240 that stopped to print during my job. It was very easy and quick. I waited 30 second before closing the windows, at least after a sound from the printer. I waited other 30 second before turning on the printer.
Now it says:

toner page count//: 2090/0(%) replace toner > 1/100(%) /normal
A question: which is the main difference with the OS version 1.01.00.93 ? the simple package is so easy to instal….

just follow ooppoo’s post. make sure you WAIT before you close the download screen. after 5-10 sec your printer should make some noise and light will turn amber then green then you can close it.

Sorry for my bad english
I tried to reset my ML-1640
I used the Simple Package but it don´t work for me.
Now I can´t run the simple package, it´s like the printer not was conected.
I do de ooopoos steps:
1. Trun off your printer.
2. Start your computer.
3. Push the orange button, and keep pushing.
4. Then turn on your printer (with the button on the back of the printer). BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING THE ORANGE BUTTON!
5. Then the LEDs start blinking (5-15 sec later), you can release the orange button.
6. You can repeat the firmware installing procedure.
But in step 5 the green led blinking too fast red and green, and i can´t repeat the firmware installing procedure.
Help!!!!

Santa try to desconect all USB´s devices before downgrading firmware, and do it while led is blinking red-green.
I tried to fix 83 versión of firmware, instead 93, versión and it works for me

Hi guys,
Took you advice, I have two ML1640 with a .91. Upgraded it as you said and successfully did it in just a few seconds. Now both are .93f.
Both unit uses cartridges with the toner chip. In the first unit, I removed it as instructed while on the second unit, I did not remove the toner chip. The OS upgrade were successful in both cases.
I’ll put the units in production to find out if these will reset once it reaches 1,500. I still have about 10 units of ML1640 but will not upgrade these yet until I complete the test.
Some of the data in the config page are not consistent. Printing 10 successive printouts in both printers does not give consistent data in some categories.
ex.
Toner page count: data is anywhere from 0-4294968295 sometimes without pattern
Cartridge s/n: sometimes CRUM-INIT_TONER, SAMSUN(INI), or Not Supported

Thanks it helps me, because some people says we can’t use this trick on printers which are manufactured after August 2009. But as I see 83 fix works for you. I fixed printers which manufactured before August 2009. So now I think any problem of firmware upgrade is made by users.
@Santa: You are doing something wrong. And I think when you repeat the firmware update you do the update wrong again. If you can fix it, please write down, because it”ll help for others.

Samsung ML1640
The 2 units that I upgraded from from 1.01.0091 to 1.01.0093f is November 2009(found at the back of the printer).
If ever you will find a date on the configuration page print out after the upgrade, it is not reliable. After printing a few configuration page, the Manufacturing Date will vary from “Not Support”, blank, or something else.

Hi Guys this rocks and yes it works ……
1:->I first refilled the toner, the one given by the company free with the printer and the other toner which i had purchased extra and this one has a chip at the side …..
2:->I used the Simple Package for ML-1640
3:->I installed the free refilled toner and it works ….
4:->I installed the other refilled toner which has the chip at the side …. but not working …. So I covered the chip using a tape and installed … Works like a charm ….

Sorry for the disturbing, but I’m afraid I need your help.Few month ago bough a ML-1640 printer.I like it, but the corst of the original cartridge is not chip! So, tried to find any solution…. Found Sahat and my son fixed the system with the RAW PACKAGE for ML-1640. Before worked perfectly, after too, BUT….. I can not printing anything for the both side of the paper!!! I prefer printing books for myself, but couldn’t. Tried normal and reverse, odd and even, try any way but cant…. If I printing anything , just one side of the paper its good. Any pages, .. ( OK tried only 2-5-20-40 ) whithout problem ! Both side not working, unfortunately ! This is my problem !!!!!!
Anyone have ANY idea, what can We-I do for solve this problem ? I don’t want to drop the printer into the waste container from the fourth level……
So, I open for everything…., tell me something good please !
I use Windows XP and the printer manufactured April of 2009.

Hi!
ZsolttheHungarian: I can print both side of the paper with patched frimware. In the options on the printer you have to choose both side, then it will print the one side, if it finish all of the odd sides, you have to put back the paper, than push the orange button for 2-3 secconds and it will print the even sides! If it finishes with the odd sides the led will blinking red, this signal means you have to put back the papers, and push the orange button.

OpPooo : I did alredy, but unfortunatelly the page counter or something else not perfect, because both even and odd pages forgot to print every 4th pages. Simply jump over and print the next one!
I put the paper back and push the orange buttom as well , but this happening. Every second or 4th page not printed !

Pushed the orange button, power up the printer and the power led was blinking rapidly from red to green. I release the orange button.
Run fix1640_93.bat then downl1640_93.bat.

Then I turn off the printer and power up again.

….. Toner Page Count / Toner Remaining /Toner Status : 0 / 100(%) / Normal (Initial Toner Page Count: 0)
Cartridge Capacity 1.5K
Dot/OPC Count: 00/0
So you can see that the Total Page count it is still active.
When I remove the initial fuse, the Toner Page Count will be active. Otherwise it will get back to 0 with every turn off/on of the printer.
This is the start cartrige; you can see the “fuse”.

thanks so much for the tips posted here.
i purchased a new cartridge which comes with the chip. i’ve refilled it for 2 times until it was exhausted yesterday (up to yesterday the page count was 3500) . the red light was continuously present (not blinking) even after i refilled the cartridge.
so i installed the simple package and covered the chip with scotch tape. the red light disappears and the printer works fine now. toner page count and initial toner page count are back to 1.

oopoo’s fix worked for me all the counters and everything else that was required was reset to zero or increased as advertised thanks oopoo. Also I had the .93 version firmware and bought the printer in China so it should work from a printer from anywhere.

There is lots of input on the ML1640 toners I have two questions
If ML1640 with original version 091 n a new cartridge is used with chip on toner when we use your cracked 0.93 SW do we need to disable the toner chip first by putting a scotch tape on it n then start the crack sw downloading/installtion or there is no need to put scotch tape on chip
Second question is that we have almost 100 units of ML1660 latest model as ML1640 is obsolete does anyone knows how to use refill toners on these ML1160 n where we can download the SW patch for ML1660

I get below n you will note that toner is counting pages n doesnot initilize back to ZERo even after turning off the printer but next page once printed is added to previous page.
I am not sure what will happen once the toner is depleted in these catridges will I be able to refill ML1610 or not as counter of these catrdgies is not resetting to ZERO

Thanks ooppoo I fixed my ML-2240 using the simple package with no issues. I am using a refilled toner cartridge and now the annoying message about the empty toner cartridge is gone. The firmware was 1.01.00.75, engine 1.00.48

I never use new toners with chip. But I think if you stick the chip, it can’t send data to the printer. But on the front of the initial toner there is a silver fuse. Does the new toner have one? Maybe it should be on the new toner, so you should try to put it onto the new toner.

Don: Yes you can use starter/initial toner. I use too.

i talked my brother through this and he upgraded to firmware 93 for the 2240 it did reset the toner status to FULL and all that but when he goes to print but the paper stops when it goes in and LSU error appears – what other steps does he need to do ? he uses starter cartridge

process:i downloaded zip file from above link,extracted it,turned on my printer ml 1640,then pressed the button on my printer for 3 sec,and i got the info that my os version:1.01.00.93 11-23-2009,then in my pc i clicked downl1640_93.bat file ,a ms dos window appeared saying ”downloading ……. press any key to continue”,but i didnt pressed any key to close the window,then in my printer there appeared flashing red led for 5 sec then stopped returned to green led,now after 1 minute i pressed some key in my pc to clse the ms dos window,then i turned off my printer,waited for 20 sec then turned on,and i pressed button on my printer and it showed ”os version:1.01.00.93f 11-23-2009”,”initial tonar page count :0”,
fantastic i made it ,every time i turned on my printer it resets to saying ””initial tonar page count :0”.

For all people who tried to flash with these patchs, and tried to use a generic toner with a chip : follow the process to flash your printer by using an original s@msung toner inside the printer. After flashing, turn off as describe. Then, turn on and wait some seconds (at least 10 sec). Then, turn off, and remove your original empty toner. Grabb your new generic toner, and remove carefully the chip. Put in your new generic toner as a normal toner, then turn on. you will see the green led switching to the green : successfull ! Last problem : your printer will say to you : “I need INK”, but your new generic toner is now fully working.
