7 Habits, an Introduction

7 HabitsI’m sure most of you have heard about 7 habits before. It’s a book written by Stephen R. Covey. The full title of the book is 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. His latest book, The 8th Habit: from Effectiveness to Greatness is also available at many book stores already. And No! If you’re wondering if I might be one of his marketing team, the answer is no (^_^)

Believe it or not, this book has changed my life long before I read it. In fact, I’ve just bought it last night, and I haven’t read it yet, not a single page. So how could it changed my life? It’s not the book I’m talking about, It’s the messages inside it, the message It’s trying to tell the whole world, and that would mean you and me, too.

I’ve always loved to learn many things from as many people as I could. I don’t care who or what they are. Like this one, I can’t remember where or whom I heard the messages of this book from. All I know is someday, I learned the importance of being pro-active (the 1st habit). Making an act instead of waiting for one. But transforming is not an easy task. Transforming means we need to step out of our comfort zone, walk into an unknown area and stay there. But the first two steps we need to know is knowing what to change and how.

Stephen R CoveyOne most important thing most people often forget, changes have to start from inside, from us. We can’t change our neighborhood just by screaming or preaching (well, it does work sometimes, but usually those changes are temporary). Because it’s our life that matters, our daily acts, our daily words and our daily behaviors. Make changes, they’ll notice and they’ll learn. I believe that a single act worth more than a thousand words.

Back to the book, 7 habit is about changing our paradigm. A paradigm shaped through years of our life. And that means 25 years for me. Can you change a habit you’ve had for 25 years in a few days just by reading a book? I don’t know about you, but I can’t. Well, like what I’ve shared in my previous post, the journey of a thousand miles begin with a single step! Remember the two first steps? Know what to change and know how.

Well, from now on, I’ll share about new things I could learn from this book occasionally, and most important, the experience of applying it to my daily life. I’ll never stop dreaming of having a better Indonesia (^_^) I can’t change everyone in it, but I can start with myself.

Important Points:

  1. I’m not their marketing team (^_^) hehe…
  2. Transforming is walking out of our comfort zone, walk into an unknown area and stay there
  3. Changes flow inside out, start from our self
  4. 2 first steps of transformation, know what to change and know how

Mungkin mirip sakitnya kambuhan, kalo lagi sehat dia bisa bijak, kalo lagi sedikit gak sehat dia bisa jadi super konyol.
